STEMettes are an organisation who run panel events, hackathons and exhibitions aimed at inspiring the next generation of women into STEM. STEMettes was founded by Anne-Marie after, amongst other reasons, she found herself as one of only 3 girls in a class of 70 studying Maths and Computer Science at university. After realizing their was a real problem with the lack of women in STEM in the UK, STEMettes created their mission;
‘To inspire the next generation of females into Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths(STEM) fields by showing them the amazing women already in STEM via a series of panel events, hackathons, exhibitions, and mentoring schemes.’
And in turn, their Vision;
‘All girls will be able to make informed decisions about careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), so that eventually women can be proportionally represented in the field. So that we can have 30%+ of the UK's STEM workforce being female, as opposed to just 14%.’
They have an excellent blog tracking their journey and progress, and regularly hold exciting events to inspire women in STEM fields, as well as selling STEM merchandise! They aim at young women throughout school, women, schools and organisations. Young women aged 15+ to come together with a woman working in STEM who can be their ‘sherpee' and offer guidence and advice.
